  AIPAC Policy Conference

March 4-6, 2012

in

Washington, D.C.

Israel faces many serious challenges and needs our support perhaps more than ever. AIPAC, as you know, is the key organization that secures bipartisan support in Congress for a strong relationship between the U.S. and Israel. AIPAC's staff and citizen activists educate decision makers about the bonds that unite the United States and Israel and how it is in America's best interest to help ensure that the Jewish state is safe, strong and secure. To draw our attention to the importance of AIPAC, Beth Jacob had the privilege of hosting AIPAC President Lee Rosenberg on Shabbat, December 17. Lee "Rosey" Rosenberg spoke in Shapell sanctuary after Mussaf and with Rabbi Weil at an AIPAC-OU lunch and learn.

Make sure to register for the Policy Conference today. This is an inspirational, empowering, and transformative experience not to be missed. Your participation makes a difference. Im lo achshav, eymatay? If not now, when?

Areivim Committee

In Memory of Estelle Samson a"h

One of the reasons we enjoy being part of Beth Jacob is for the profound sense of belonging we feel.  We are all connected to one another.  In that spirit, we would like everyone to know about our important Areivim Committee.  Areivim means that we are all guarantors and responsible to support one another.  (As in the expression "Kol Yisrael Areivim zeh lazeh" -- All Jews are responsible for one another).   We are proud that the Samson family is sponsoring Areivim in memory of Estelle Samson a"h, a wonderful woman who is remembered so fondly in our community.

It is extremely heartwarming to see our members step up to the plate whenever there is a time of need.  We are blessed with many happy times, such as births, and unfortunately, sad times as well.  At these times and during any time when you could use a helping hand, the Beth Jacob Areivim Committee will be reaching out and helping, whether it be by making meals, setting up hospitality for visitors in town, providing a ride to a doctor's appointment, picking up some food at the supermarket or any other form of assistance that may be necessary in the situation.  We are looking for the chesed in our community to grow and strengthen, to make sure that whenever a member is in need of help, whether it is a small or large task, we are there for them.  In essence, this is what being a part of a community is all about.

For our efforts to be successful, we need to be aware of situations where a person could benefit from some help or assistance. If you, or someone you know, is needy of any type of support, please contact areivim@bethjacob.org, (310) 652-7712, (201) 741-5034, or Rabbi Topp.

Just as important, we need to strengthen our team of volunteers who are willing to step up and get involved.  If you are able to participate in any way, it will be greatly appreciated.  Below you will find a list of categories that the Areivim Committee oversees.  Please check the boxes that you are kindly willing to volunteer with.  Even if you've volunteered in the past, please be so kind as to reconfirm your interest.

As we say on Shabbat morning before Mussaf, "Vekol ha'oskim B'tzarchei tzibbur b'emunah Hakadosh Baruch Hu Yeshalem Secharam" -- which means that for all those who are engaged sincerely in the needs of the community, may G-d reward them generously.

Once again, thank you so much for your commitment and dedication to Klal Yisrael!

Shalom Aleichem Team

The Shalom Aleichem Team is a group of shul volunteers who take it upon themselves to welcome new faces when they arrive in shul on Shabbat and Yom Tov.

The Shalom Aleichem Team also includes those who volunteer to host a guest at their Shabbat table.  We should all be friendly and hospitable, but this initiative will insure that no visitors fall through the cracks.

Volunteer today to enhance the level of achdut and hospitality in our community.
